Mary Shelley Frankestein




Percy Bysshe Shelley
Born in 1792, the son of a member of English parliament. In 1811 he was expelled from the oxford university after the publication of his pamphlet “the necessity of Atheism”, in which he negated the existence of god. He married Harriet but separated and married Mary Godwin. They went to Switzerland where met Byron. After he went to live in Italy where in 1822 died for accident; while sailing near Livorno, he drowned in a storm.
Percy interest in the occult sciences and in scientific experiment.
He wrote:
  * An epic revolutionary poem “the revolt of Islam”, in which he expressed his conviction that only love could deliver men from any social claims (pretese).
  * Ode to the west wind, ode to the autumn wind and his effect on the nature
  * The cency, tragedy
  * Prometheus unbound, a lyrical drama dealing with the theme of intellectual rebellion, the desire for spiritual liberty and the belief that the evil would be win by the power of love. ( is also a elegy to remember the poet kids)
  * England in 1819, write after the peterloo massacre

Shelley believed strongly in the principles of freedom and love. He refuses social conventions, political oppression and any form of tyranny. He believed that through love man could cancelled any political, moral and social constraints.

The poet for Shelley is at the same time a prophet and titan. His task is to help the human to reach an ideal world full of freedom and love .
The nature Shelley describes is not the real world but a ideal and beautiful nature. His approach to nature isn’t direct, he use images and symbol like the wind and the clouds. The nature represents the refuge from the injustices of the ordinary world and the interlocutor of his hope for a better future.

Written after the so-called peterloo massacre important for the English political history. Shelly was in Italy but following the news and summarized the evil of his nation.
